In this already high-profile election season, more than $1000 was raised to support voter education and awareness by The Ridgefield League of Women Voters [RLWV] through an Art Raffle and Guest Bartending event at Gallo Ristorante.
A raffle for Rachel Volpone's painting "Sea Blue" was won by Sharon Hyde. Volpone, from a family of dedicated voters, painted the piece in honor of her grandfather, who spent time driving senior citizens to the polls. The spirit of the League's mission to "Make Democracy Work" was alive and well that evening, which, being a Tuesday, coincided with Presidential primaries in West Virginia and Nebraska, and our local budget referendum. The League achieves its mission through non-partisan education and advocacy work. RLWV members Kathleen Slocum, Birgitta Stone and Philip Lodewick were behind the bar, with 10 percent of bar and restaurant sales, and 100 percent of bar tips going to the League. Gallo Chef and community booster Raffaele Gallo, manager Jeff Henning and RLWV member Amanda Cordano were instrumental in ensuring the great success of the event.
