LOIC Gouzer — a Christie's contemporary art specialist, and close pal of Leo DiCaprio, who's a pioneer in "themed" art sales — is reportedly more relentless than some of today's billionaire collectors.
"He's very pushy," says Steve Cohen's art adviser Sandy Heller of Gouzer in a revealing New Yorker profile out Monday.
"He says, 'I want that piece of art,' and I say, 'It's on my client's wall, and it's not going anywhere.' "
The New Yorker's Rebecca Mead reports that Gouzer "dislodges works from collections through dogged persuasion, sometimes with substantial guaranteed prices backed by Christie's or by a third party."
Gouzer himself admits, "I am not a good courter. I am more of a torturer. I will make your life miserable until you give up."
(His boss, Brett Gorvy, even says, "You want to slap him across the face.")
Gouzer adds, "It is not even cool to be a billionaire anymore — there are, like, two hundred of them. But, if that same guy buys a painting, suddenly it puts you in a whole circle . . . It is the fastest way to become an international name."
